Taking Care of the big “C”

So as most of you already know, our family was hit with the big "C". for those of you who dont know... that means cancer.

About 2 months ago, Jacob noticed a lump down in the nether regions, thought maybe one the youth kids might have nicked him at camp wresting or something. Soooo as he put it "I thought no big deal and it will probably go away" . He expressed concern to one of our close friends who referred our doctor to us to get it checked... when he was ready. I am eternally Grateful to him for helping my husband!! Brett, Your my Hero!!  Two weeks later the lump had actually got bigger and thats when he decided to tell me about it.

You see, this girl does not play games with lumps or anything abnormal, if its weird we are loading up the wagon and seeing the ol doctor about it. If it turns out I'm over reacting then I'm over reacting and we are fine. Unfortunately I was not over reacting and my wonderful husband was diagnosed with type 2B testicular cancer.

God really had our back though, as soon as the doctor saw the lump he sent us a day later for an ultrasound and no more than 5 minutes after the ultrasound they sent us back up to our doctor who was waiting in our room for us. We got the news that he was 98% sure that Jacob had testicular cancer and was referring us to a urologist that day....  We loved the urologist, super straight forward which I loved, but that was also when he told us that Jacob had Cancer and he would be having surgery.

So Jacob went from being this super healthy active guy to in two days have cancer and having surgery in a week. It was a big blow for me because I wanted to Know WHY? Why God, would you do this to my husband and Why couldn't it have been me? Lots of emotions for our family but of course Jacob being the amazing Godly leader he is for our family kept saying there is a plan we just cant see it yet.

So that night we told our family and prepared them for what was about to happen. Most of them took it hard but they all rallied behind us and I truly saw how blessed Jacob and I both were with all the support and family we have. Both sides automatically asking what they can do, seeing (fighting) over who gets to watch our sweet Sonny-girl and who can pick up Dyl-Pickle from school.  Of course all the Jokes started with this awkward procedure jacob was about to endure but it lightened the mood and Jacob was just thankful that people were laughing with him.

Jacob had his surgery and unfortunately missed the first day of school, if you know my husband then you know that he loves his job or should I say "Jobs"! He loves teaching, Coaching and being a youth minister. He tells me that he has never had to work because he loves what he does.  (This has been the most difficult part of this process, telling him to take it easy and to understand  that people will understand) and I want to personally thank everyone who has told him take it easy that is his superior.... you will never know how much that means to me, his wife who is constantly worried about his health now.

Also in the midst of the big "C" Chaos we celebrated birthday's and it was definitely a nice distraction.

After Jacob's Surgery they biopsied the testicle and we found out that Jacob had not 1, not 2 but 4 types of cancer in his body and unfortunately after his cat Scan we found that the cancer had spread to his Lymph Nodes and  we would be seeing a new doctor (Oncologist) have another surgery and start  chemo treatments immediately
Wonderful Facility with a great staff

Waithing in the Doctor's office and thought we would get a selfie in!!

Jacob getting ready for his 2nd surgery and trying to get stuff ready for school the next day... lol

He is being a trooper and we are knocking this thing in butt!! He is in the middle of his first treatment today and only 20 more to go!!
Staring his first treatment today!!

The hardest part is being away from our little girl, she is such a blessing to us and makes us laugh all the time. God is truly using her already in our lives and she will never know the impact she has had on her daddy during this trial in his life.
Cheering for Daddy

She is Always so Happy

She loves being outside
I want to thank all of our family for their support, our friends,  our church family, for Alvarado ISD and their patients and support, and the team of doctors who have made us so comfortable and have worked round the clock to give Jacob the care he needs.

I will be updating this blog regularly now for any updates in Jacob and his journey!!

P.S. I am not one that focuses a lot on grammar but more on what i'm saying... so i'm sorry for any Grammar issues...

  1. Thank you for the update! I'm praying for you all, and even though I know you've heard it so many times, know that I mean it when I say, "If you need ANYTHING...I'm right here." Love to you all! Cheryl
